Apparently, we’re seeing Venus, Jupiter and a thin three-day-old crescent moon. What the photo doesn’t show, though, is how amazingly bright all three appear against the stars in the sky.

Great!
I should have had info on my blog, but I couldn’t find any information anywhere about events happening…! (I even emailed the Chung Wah asn!) I guess it just must be common knowledge that there’s stuff happening in Northbridge? And it seems to be more a family event?
What I do know is there’ll be some fireworks at Burswood on Sunday 25 Feb around 9pm. But this is also not being advertised!

There are lion dances for the few days in Chinatown itself plus next weekend around the rest of Northbridge.

Strange thing happened during this dance. As part of the dance people - especially children - give red packets (hong bao) with money inside to the lions. It’s supposed to bring good luck, plus it’s also a thank you to the dancers for the entertainment. It’s entirely voluntary. This year, for the first time in my 20 or so years of watching lion dancing in Perth, I saw stacks of white people giving red packets. Usually it’s just the Chinese etc. Cool!
