WESTERN Australia will trial daylight saving this summer. The state's upper house has passed a Bill which will introduce daylight saving on December 3, for a three-year trial, to be followed by a referendum in 2009.

Woohoo, everyone gets an entire 12 days’ notice about having to change their clocks.

I look forward to seeing the Government spending big on advertising to make sure the word gets out widely enough in such a short time …

From a climate perspective, it would make more sense for Perth to have daylight saving in winter, because the weather is mild and most outdoor activities remain possible. In that case, why not just put the clocks forward 1 hour all year round, and forget about it? Like something that progressive will ever happen in Perth!

So the only logical reason for having summer daylight saving is to reduce the time difference between the east and west coast to 2 hours.

But why does Perth really need to maintain the 2 hour difference with the east coast? Mainly because a lot of business lemmings can’t cope with the time difference.

So what happens when smart businesses capitalise on the market potential and human services in SE and Central Asia. Then the business lemmings will be forced to follow, because half of the staff are now employed in India, since the skills shortage has made the cost of business prohibitively expensive in Australia. Now the compliants start that the staff and contacts in central Asia have 1 hour less to do business. To equalise the difference, you will need to stay at work an hour longer. So the result is working longer hours, and being too tired when you get home to enjoy the hour you should have saved.

What we needed is a referendum on developing sound business infrastructure in WA, not a knee jerk reaction on daylight saving.

Bring it on… might mean us late risers can get some more daylight too… now… if some shops were actually open later that would be good too…

A redder fish has never been landed.

Now can we get back to OBE, Malborough, ACCC…?

DaBosq, if people don’t realise that daylight savings has been introduced, then quite frankly I don’t think it would matter if the clocks were turned back 20 years.

As a bloke up in Shark Bay told me recently when I asked him what the time was, “How would I know? I eat when I’m hungry, go to bed when I’m tired.”

Newsidea, unless you run a call centre in India, then I think the benefits of daylight savings outweigh the negatives. This also means that they have one hour less time to annoy the bejeezus out of me on the phone.

The one thing that all of you have missed and the most compelling reason for daylight savings is how ridiculously early the sun comes up here! I’ve been waking up before 5am every day thinking it must be 10am at least - it’s so bloody light outside. This move will hopefully redress this imbalance so we can all get a bit more sleep.

Oh and you ’start early, finish early’ Perthites need not bother responding.

Hang on to your hats WA, having lived in the East and DLS for quite a few years I can tell you the following facts about DLS: Daylight hours are at there peak regardless of DLS, children do not want to go to bed because it is still light outside, please remember not to call interstate too early will you?, you too will feel tiered for a few weeks whilst your body clock adjusts, there will be no green house benefits made as per studies already undertaken, etc etc, as you can probably tell I am very anti DLS and my reasons are very valid. You too will soon experience the most non uniform non logical antiquated load of rubbish called Daylight Savings (LOL).

While this article is a year old, it’s strange to be replying to it… but who cares.

I stand against DLS on principle. Not because I really care either way about its effects, but because three separate times the WA population voted no, and then a politician forced it upon that population anyway.

Oops, a DB error saw our old stories coming up to the top. A timely story though :)

Because DLS will be on us soon…
